You should teach children to take good care of their pets and ensure all of them are treated kindly. Let them know that to be a good pet owner, jointly with their parents and caregivers, they should:
- Give them food and water to keep them healthy.
- Keep them safe from the sun, rain, and cold, and give them a comfy place to rest.
- Make sure they don't roam around without a collar.
- Make sure they get their rabies vaccine as early as possible to keep them healthy and so that they do not represent a threat to you.
- Take them to the vet if they are sick or hurt and for vaccination or deworming, which they need to have regularly.
- Treat them kindly and let them sleep, walk, run, and play.
- Never hurt or threaten them, and don't leave them alone for long periods.
