Vaccinated Dog, Happy Community

Protecting your family

Preventing rabies is a community effort, and as parents and caregivers, you play a crucial role in keeping your family and neighbourhood safe.

Here are three key actions you can take:

  • Vaccinate dogs when they are puppies and ensure their vaccination is kept up to date throughout life: This is the most effective way to prevent rabies.
  • Teach children to recognize a dog with rabies and report it so that they can avoid them and help stop the spread of rabies.
  • Teach children to be kind and cautious around dogs: This can help ensure dogs are treated with care, attention, and love and reduce the chance that children are bitten.
  • Act quickly if a child is bitten, scratched, or licked by a dog: Prompt action can prevent death. Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Then, go to the nearest healthcare provider right away for treatment and advice.
