Know how Rabies spreads
Rabies is caused by a virus that infects an animal's brain. The infection makes dogs and other animals behave strangely and become aggressive before they die. The rabies virus is present in the dog’s saliva and spreads to humans when the dog bites or scratches a person or licks on broken skin, lips, or eyes.
When humans become infected with rabies, the source is often a sick dog. Almost all human rabies cases are transmitted by dogs. However, other infected animals, such as cows, camels, goats, donkeys, and sheep, can also spread it.
However, dogs only infect people with rabies when they are sick with the disease. This is why, as parents, we must teach children to avoid dogs with signs of rabies and how to act if bitten, scratched, or licked in the face or on open wounds by a dog who could have rabies.
Since dogs are our preferred companion animals, we must take special care of them. Dogs don’t get rabies if they are vaccinated, and only dogs that have rabies spread the infection to people.
That’s why it is so important to vaccinate your dogs against rabies and to encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to do the same.
Vaccinating dogs prevents both people and pets from becoming infected with rabies.
