Rabies is a very serious disease caused by a virus that spreads from animals to people. People and animals who get rabies usually die from it. Nearly everyone who contracts rabies does so through contact with an infected dog.

Once someone becomes sick with rabies, there is no cure

But you can stop the disease from developing after someone has become infected. Knowing what to do and acting quickly can be the difference between life and death.

As parents, we must know what to do when a child may have been exposed to rabies. This is very important as almost half of the people who die from rabies are kids under 15 years old.

Children are at higher risk because they tend to interact with dogs and other animals that can spread rabies and may not recognize the signs of a sick animal.
